  1. was watching an anime and there was a grammar I was unfamiliar with!

a character says “mother” a lot, and another character asks why she says that (as she’s a demon and didn’t have a concept of family). the character responds: “だって、殺せぬくなるでしょう?” subs: “Because it stops you from killing us.”

question: what is this “ぬく” here? I looked up the grammar and got answers of it meaning something like, to finish something, or to do a task until the end, but that doesn’t quite make sense in this context. I was wondering if there’s another meaning I’m missing. Thank you!

  2. > 外へもれないようにしておかねばなりません。

Having some trouble with this. Context: Someone has to keep something a secret.

    More context: https://www.aozora.gr.jp/cards/001779/files/57228_58735.html

I don’t get しておかねばなりません, I think 外へもれないように is そこへ漏れないように, which would be something about not letting (the secret) leak out.

  3. Have been doing core6k, bout a hundred words in and recently heard 2.3k is better. Should I switch now? The only things I don’t like about the 2.3 deck is no PoS and no furigana (which I can live with). Thoughts?

  4. 「汚い」and「穢い」are both adjectives to describe something that is dirty; furthermore, they are both pronounced as 「きたない」. Would like to know if these kanji can be used interchangeably or does it change based on the scenario or context of the situation.

  5. 先生と日本語で話します。

Is it a faulty thing that I translate/understand this in my head as:
“*My teacher and I are speaking Japanese together*”?

When its translation according to Tango N5 is:
“*I speak Japanese with the teacher*”?

I try to just understand the essence and not rely on translations, but this might hurt me in the long run, I’m wondering. Note that I haven’t started learning grammar at all and just relying on exposure (for now) via Tango N5.

or maybe I am too early in my studies and shouldn’t worry about things like this..?

  6. (Beginner here)

    “(彼は)結婚していますか”.

Which form of the verb “結婚” should I use to use it with “と申います”?
