Recommendations for child who likes construction trucks?

I am currently planning a trip to Japan in March/April 2024. This is my second trip, but the first with/for child (4yo) who really likes construction trucks (not cars, trains, planes, or emergency vehicles) and building.

We are tentatively planning to visit Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, and Fukuoka. So far all I have found the Kenki Museum outside of Kagoshima (planning to do a day trip to Kagoshima anyway), Yanmar Museum in Shiga-ken (not sure this is worth the trip?), and several infrastructure places in Osaka (Osaka Gas Science Museum, Maishima Incineration Plant, and Osaka City Sewerage Science Museum) and outside Tokyo (G-Cans). Anyone know of anything else?

I was surprised Kidzania doesn’t have anything on point for this age group (there is a construction area for kids under 3 and the maintenance job for kids 6+). Does anyone know any indoor play areas with construction areas (definitely a thing in America, but most of the play areas I’ve seen are mostly ball pits and climbing)?

  2. Kids Plaza Osaka (in the Kita district) is a great place for kids to explore- and a nice backup plan for any rainy days. This is a great family friendly museum with so many interactive fun exhibits. There’s a science section… a cultural section… a TV studio… and Kids Town Playground (on the 4th floor) designed by artist – Friedensreich Hundertwasser… there are colorful, fun bridges, walls and slides. Oh… and there is a wonderful playground at Ogimachi Park located right behind Kids Plaza Osaka, if the weather is nice.

  3. In Osaka’s Kita ward we went thru a Tomica shop, I think this is right up your son’s alley

  4. My son like all vehicles equally. There are a lot of construction sites in Osaka city center. My son had fun just watching the diggers and cranes.
