Question about climbing my fuji.

I am planning to climb Mt Fuji this summer when I visit japan in July. I have seen people post walking sticks with them being stamped at the stations.I had a few questions regarding it and was wondering if someone could help answer my questions.

(I plan on climbing through the yoshida or fujinomiya trail)

Thank you in advance and I am sorry if this is the wrong sub.

1) How many huts offer the stamps for walking sticks?
2) I see most trails start at station 5 is this where the stamping begins?
3) Are there stations 1-4 or are there only stations from 5-10?
4) How heavy do you think the extra gear will be on my back?
5) Is there any workouts you recommend to help prepare me for my climb.

  2. Hey! Hope this can help you out.

    1. Just about every hut offers stamps along the way. The number of huts/stamps along each trail will depend on how popular that trail is.
    2. Yes, you should be able to get your first stamp when you start at station 5.
    3. I believe there are stations 1-4, but I wouldn’t recommend starting from the base of the mountain unless you are a very experienced climber.
    4. The sticks are incredibly light! Much lighter than they initially appear, so it shouldn’t be too much of a burden to carry around.
    5. When I climbed the first time I did not prepare at all, and I highly recommend against it. My second time I prepared by going to the gym about 3 times a week for maybe 6 months. I did a lot of walking on the treadmill at full incline, and using my gym’s stair master machine. But any exercise that can improve your overall stamina will also really pay off.

One more thing—if you’re planning on getting a stick, make sure to consider in advance how you’ll get it home! A lot of visitors don’t consider this beforehand. Most airlines will not let you bring it on as a carryon, but you can check it. If you plan to take it home as a souvenir, you’ll either need to pay for an extra checked bag, or fly with an airline that allows you two checked items.

  3. There’s YouTube videos on this. I’m going next July as well.

There’s a shorter stick if all you want are the stamps.

And I thought the stations go only to 8.5? At least via the easiest trail.

  4. I did the whole Yoshida trail this September (starting from Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine).

Stations 1-4 don’t exist anymore and are just some run-down piles of wood. You can find some pictures for “Fujiyoshida 2nd station” on Google maps.
