Basically the title. I am super clean. I know many people say that, but it is absolute true for me. I am extremely clean, organized, a freak. Last night, I came home from work and saw the biggest freaking cockroach in my entire life, just chilling on my wall. It was as long as the palm of my hand. Someone please offer an explanation as to why it was here and what I can do to never see such thing again. Please 💀 After I killed it and disinfected the entire area, I went to my boyfriend’s and am scared to go back. Please, I am desperate 💀

The huge black cockroaches are thankfully not indicative of any infestation.
They just wander in then chill on walls for a bit before terrifying the everliving fuck out of you.
It’s the smaller brown ones that you should worry about.
Get the black cap trap things. You might still see one, but it’ll be incredibly rare. I’ve seen exactly 1 (which was already dead) in the 3 years I’ve been using them.
Just being clean isn’t going to completely prevent them, they’ll still be running about outside and can and will find ways into homes. Best to just leave poison for any that do manage to find a way in so they’ll just go off and die, never to return.
The big ones kind of just do their own thing.
Roaches can show up anywhere, it doesn’t matter how well you clean. It could be a building issue, a neighbor issue, a location issue. But yes they’ll show up in spotless homes too.
When you leave a bunch of food out for them sure, an infestation is likely to grow but when you see one, especially one of the bigger ones and not a small one. Just treat it like any other bug that wandered in.
Welcome to Japan, you’ll see large cockroaches from time to time.
I think the big black ones are actually like wild insects – they only go in, when hiding from rain or by accident, so no indication of infestation/dirtiness.
I usually use spray against cockroaches on all door/window frames and also blocked all air conditioner pipes – those that just drip water out.
Also the washing machine pipe – there is kind of grate around it, that cockroach can come through.
Only have seen one cockroach in 7 years and we live on ground floor – so as long as all entrance/exit for them is blocked, I think you will be safe.
I get flashbacks of my first rendevouz with one of them.
I needed to shake only thinking about them..
Cinnamon is a natural cockroach deterrent. If you go the commercial route, someone mentioned the small black cap things you place around your place to kill them. It has a fragrant smell so I am guessing they pack it with cinnamon too. You can order these online.
Get one of those plugs for your AC drain hose designed to keep critters put. Daiso has them
Are you close to a restaurant, ground/2nd floor, older building? Sometimes regardless of how clean you keep the place one will find it’s way in at some point
Don’t worry. The massive roaches fly in from outside. It’s the tiny ones you have to worry about.
They are coming inside because it’s autumn and colder at night.
Did you cap the drain line on your Aircon? You can find these caps at Daiso. Cockroaches get in through the drain line.
I believe yesterday there was quite heavy rain in the Kanto region. I find that we only ever see roaches in the house when theres been heavy or sustained rain. The often come up through the drains and we find them in the bathroom.
If a neighbour or landlord has recently sprayed a place next to yours, the roaches will relocate to somewhere more welcoming.
As others have mentioned, the big black ones are “outside” ones, so it just found its way in. The small ones are bad news. Check around windows, doors, screens, vents, etc. for any potential entrance, and tape it up.
I saw a huge one pass underneath the main apartment door, despite it looking to my eye as if there‘s no space under the door at all.
Cockroaches can squeeze through tiny places despite their size. It‘s magic.
