Daughters having a good week, being extra well behaved. She has Halloween activities this weekend and Christmas is coming up so think she’s trying to get in those extra points for the year.
House purchase in Tokyo is moving forward, albeit very slowly.
Making some progress on my screw the world property in Iwate, long term project but progress nonetheless.
Vegetable garden is looking good, successful transition to autumn.
My 5 year attempt at growing black walnuts was somewhat successful this year and have 3 trees that are starting to get their autumn leaves, need to move them to Iwate.
UK government website makes things so smooth and easy to do. Passport renewal application done in under half hour, despite being halfway across the world! Load off my mind!
Having a car is the best thing ever. You can keep random stuff in it, like extra clothes or an umbrella. You can keep water in it. Food in there. It’s comfortable, you can take a nap. You can go anywhere the roads do (given some time).
Yesterday I went to go grab something from my car during lunch break and just sat there for a bit eating chocolate covered almonds in peace. It was amazing.
Also, I heard that I can stay at my job for another year. No paperwork yet, but the BOE workers told me about the rule change. My supervisor told me to “save money and achieve my dreams.” I feel very lucky 😭
Day off for school festival prep.
Went to all you can eat fancy nabe place with a group of friends and ate until we had trouble walking. Absolutely lovely experience. The service was very fast, deserts were in included the deal. The place’s called nabezou for those intrigued.
I love this weather so much. Just sun, no wind and extremely comfortable temperatures both day and night.
I’ve been really diligent in my piano practice this week. Hope I can keep the habit going.
I’m no neat freak, but it’s nice giving the house a nice thorough cleaning. Just living here and the kids especially will trash it again, but it’s nice to get things good and clean.
And I love my oldest’s reaction when I show him how much dirt the vaccum cleaned since last time.
I believe I will get some ramen for lunch and make some surprise Halloween candy buckets for the kids as well
the weather is heavenly
-Weather is heavenly -Son did not tell me to GTFO when I went to check on him because he cried at night. -Son 2 is starting to smile at 3 months
-RMA of my pc cooler is back within 48hours, they didn’t repair they send a brand new one.
-My migraine is gone.
Big up to my local appliance store for helping move in my fridge.
Just moved to a new place with stairs and the moving company claimed it was impossible to move it in, even by crane, and kindly offered to help dispose our 20man fridge…
Mansion management was understanding and put us in touch with the local denkiya who saved the day and moved it in super easily by crane.
So glad this bs is over.
IT’S FRIDAYYYYYYY
Local nursery is decorating Christmas trees. (Yeah, it’s too early, but hey) Anyway, local university students apparently love decorating them judging by how happy they seem and how many showed up. It’s refreshing to see so many people smiling and having a good time.
– 国立大学 tuition prices being this affordable
– my glasses are fine now
– survived yet another week
– talked to the professor in charge of our year, he doesn’t seem that disappointed in me
– the sun is nice
Carved pumpkins in the yard with some family friends from the neighborhood, decorated our porch with the jack o lanterns, lights and all and people love it. Affordable home ownership is awesome. Japan is awesome. My brother pays more than double my mortgage to rent a shoebox in Toronto and will probably never be able to afford a house despite having a decent job 😭😭
Shout out to the ANA baggage employee who let me off with a slight overage on my checked baggage instead of sucking their teeth while saying “rules are rules” and making pay a fee.
* getting paid * comfortable weather * treated to dinner by a potential new client/partner, i wanted to pay but they insisted * treated to lunch by an old friend. possible small business opportunity in the future – she also has her own company and can share her experience and advice * despite all the great things this week, felt down yesterday and had a good cry about it. after that, slept very soundly for about 10 hours. best sleep i’ve had in months, i think.
Went to immigration and it honestly wasn’t so bad, got what I needed to done with nothing worse than some waiting around.
despite job ramping up the “oh this is hell” a couple good things happened this week
software company that ended up not hiring me after the final interview ended up sending me a package containing a copy of their design software + a year long free license along + an apology letter (about how it was a shame I ended up not being the best fit for this position).
It was a very sweet gesture and I hope it bodes well if I decide to interview with them again.
also because my job has been so exhausting/overtime-y this week my gf is taking me to get some szechuan noodles tonight so i don’t have to cook. i feel loved
After years without finding anything remotely resembling a Slurpee (despite 7-11 being everywhere here!), I finally found a similar frozen beverage in Asakusa. It really hit the spot.

Let’s see,..
Nothing major but a few things
Weathers really nice after a brutal summer.
