Hello I’m looking forward to go hiking with my father in northern japan.
We planed to meet up at hachimantai, but I have trouble deciding on a place / possible walks. I love going up through different stages of vegetation and landscapes, for example starting in a forest and going through wetlands ending at a volcanic moonscape. but there are a few things that complicate things.
– we have no driving licence, but are experienced hitchhikers in japan (before pandemic tough) a but connection would be prefered in any case.
– he is over 80, but still walking well, altough at reduced speed. in general it takes about 2x than indicated. I think the route can have max 3–4h. (so 6–8h at his speed)
– we would stay about 2–3 night
any suggestions? either for walks or where we would station ourselves preferably?
or hints where I can find more information on hikingmaps and routes?if hachimantai is not ideal, what else would be good?
thank you
