I’ve seen people do this all the time
Not just foreigners
“Apologized, saying he had failed to acquaint himself with Japanese cultural norms” – you mean the cultural norms of any civilized country 🙄 morons
That Somali fella just got 5 years.
In the first place, I found it unpleasant that in the video they were traveling like beggars.
They clearly did not understand the value of the money that the Japanese people, who were already living a difficult life due to increased taxes, a weak yen, high prices, and 30 years of no economic growth, paid them in good faith.
One of the dude has a very punchable face
Of course, it’s only natural that creators would make more extreme content if it leads to more views. But YouTube also shares some of the blame for allowing such content to be monetized.
They really need to be made an example of. Jail + deported
I was hanging out with a Japanese streamer recently and the worst part about these asshole streamers that come to Japan and do bullshit like this is that Japan might eventually put laws in place that make it hard for people who actually live here to stream real life content at all.
no mention of that JohnnySomali guy that was yelling hiroshima and nagasaki on the train repeatedly
the guy caused so much trouble I was surprised he didnt get deported in an instant
You know if people continue to keep this shit up, its just going to get worse for all foreigners.
Japan already has strict regulations in terms of public footage but they might actually start screening for influencers when entering the country.
The thing is, while dumbasses like these guys have always existed, they now make money doing this which only encourages them further. Look at their audience who apparently cheered by the fact that this guy had the “audacity” to steal food from a hotel and avoid paying travel fees. Hotels are going to start forcing guests to show room keys and have people exit bathrooms for their tickets regardless of the actual situation.
I do think Youtube/Tiktok and other video sharing platforms are the real problem though, allowing this to happen because its content that makes them money.
As a foreigner passing through Japan : “Hang him tight!”
The YouTube generation embarrassing humans one again. Let’s just give up on this failed gen
Deport these jerks and the streaming platforms need to hit them in the wallet. Terrible to trash someone else’s home for fame
How does this even work? Every Shinkansen I’ve been on you needed a ticket to get out of the station, so how would hiding in the bathroom help?
Now get rid of the begpackers. Fucking scum.
I would like to ask where there is a cultural sphere in which a person who steals is not excluded.
Influencers can be the most annoying and obnoxious people on Earth. Truly, these people have no sense of self respect and are immune to the feelings of shame and embarrassment.
It seems like Japan is not ready to welcome loose morality culture, especially shoplifting one, from USA.
No.
Fuck.
These.
Guys.
Arrest them please Japan and send a message.
Looked at his photo on twitter, typical Gen-Z influencer garbage with that nasty blue dyed hair.
Ticks all the boxes I guess
*Guess I hurt someone’s feelings 🤣
I hope this brings an end to the “in Japan” videos that plague my recommendations page. From now on, the only person who’s allowed to make videos in Japan is Chris Broad. Everyone else is banned.
This type of behavior reflects thw parenting of styles of west and east. East hones discipline and morality while the west teaches you to do whatever you without regards of the consequences. Additionally, Europeans and kther westerners think the entire world revolves around them and they cant accept they are the new savages!
Make an example of them
As a US service member stationed in Japan I hate people like this. I love Japan I love how everyone is so nice and welcoming. I’d rather adhere to the laws and stay here than be a idiot even if I wasn’t a service member I still stand with what I say. Don’t spoil it for the rest of us.
Good.
This my friends is why Jp immigration or anyone with a brain will not let us have PR easily.
Ugh… currently at the end of my trip to Japan for the first time, and the one thing I disliked the most about here, are the foreigners. My gf and I pride ourselves in trying to be as mindful as we can (often times more so than the locals) and adapting as best we can.
This feels like yet another moderation problem for the social networks. The user-preference driven recommendation algorithms will always end up promoting controversy and skirting/flaunting/openly breaking minor laws will always tick that box.
This seems like the Japan version of a story likely playing itself out in almost every country.
Seems like governments should hold the networks accountable for this bullshit. Educate the creators but maybe also punish the users that upvote and/or watch the garbage?
