I’m reaching out because I’m feeling really down and a bit anxious. I’m currently in Japan on a Working Holiday visa, which expires next month. I’ve been working with my company since February, and in August, they started the process for my COE. I submitted everything on August 4th. It’ll be three months next week, and I haven’t received any updates. I’ve called them and even visited Immigration in Tokyo, but they said it’s still under review and it just takes time. I know some people wait longer, but I do know others who applied in September and already got theirs.
I’m worried this might be a bad sign for me… but then again, if there were any issues, wouldn’t they have contacted me or my company to clear things up? I’m trying to stay positive, but the idea of having to leave Japan in a few weeks without knowing about my COE is putting a lot of pressure on me.
What do you all think? Is this likely bad news? I just want honest opinions; I don’t want false hope…

Quite the opposite. When there is a problem, they contact you.
It’s just slow processing. It sucks. There are a massive amount of CoEs, likely more than any recent year.
i don’t think it is bad news or good news. By the way, I would take anything you hear with a grain of salt. Nobody knows.
My COE was delayed this year as well. Everything was fine, it’s just a slow process. I hope you get it soon 🙂
I did the same in July-Sep. It was 3 months to the day. Got it a few days before travelling back home but after already booking my return trip, it is stressful so good luck! At least it’s all by email these days.
I’m in the same boat as you, I sent mine on 29th of July and it’s still under review.. I’ll keep you updated, my lawyer told me that I might have it in the end of October
