iPhone found Ishigaki

My parents found an iPhone floating in the waters of Ishigaki. They charged it and date is showing up as 10/1, so it’s been swimming (in a case) for a while. What would be the best case of action here? Can we bring it to the Apple Store for them to find and return to the owners? Feeling like brining it to local police box will just have it left in lost and found box… no guarantee that it even was lost in Ishigaki. Phone has Japanese date and screensaver, so there is hope we can return it to the local owners 💪

  1. Go to the police. They will register in their systems and there is a good chance they will find the owner. They will ask you lots of questions in Japanese so be prepared for that.

  2. Police. It’s more than likely whoever lost it has made a report and handing it over will help link that up, even if it wasn’t lost in Ishigaki. Apple Store won’t be able to do anything with it. Be prepared for possibly a lottttt of questions at the station.

  3. Or just leave it on/inside the mailbox at the police box if they don’t want to deal with answering questions. For the sake of the owner though maybe charge it so it shows up on find my iphone.

  4. Last time I bought a lost phone to the police, I was treated like a criminal and swore I would never do it again.

You can just put it in a post box and Japan post will take care of it.

  5. Ask Siri – whose iPhone is this? Depending on the owners settings it can reply with the details. Also worth checking if the medical ID info is filled in – just keep the power button and volume up pressed , and after some seconds it should give you a slider for medical ID.

This assumes the iPhone iPhone X or newer, and is somewhat functional …

  6. Like most people suggested, go to the police. I found some airpods a few months ago, returned them to the police and got them back 3 months after because no one claimed them.

  7. I found one on the street once and brought it to the AU shop .. the staff girl asked me if I used it. ( kind of rude ) but the staff guy thanked me ..
