Well-known Jpop Songs

I’m an international student studying abroad here in Japan for the academic year. For the first month I was here I heard Idol basically every day. What other songs blew up like Idol here? I’m curious to hear other peoples’ past experiences with the same songs blaring in every ramen shop.

  1. When I first came here “Neko” by Dish was being played all over. Followed by “Yoru ni kakeru” by Yoasobi

  2. Pretender – HigeDan
    Lemon – Yonezu
    Marigold – Aimyon
    Zenzenzense – Radwimps
    Koi – Hoshino Gen
Koi Suru Fortune Cookie or any AKB top single for a certain year or any Arashi top single for that matter
    Etc … comes to mind

Google Billboard Japan Top 100 and you might find what you are looking for

  3. Kabutomushi by Aiko.

    It’s automatic by Hikaru Utada.

Heavy rotation by Morning Musume or some shit.

Koko de kiss shite by Shiina Ringo.

Bland drivel by SMAP and Arashi, especially that awful “Number one” song.

  4. Adding to what everyone else has said

    USA by Da Pump

    Paprika by Foorin

    Gurenge by Lisa

    Ussewa by Ado

  5. I don’t know if it translates to the rest of the country, but I was in Osaka for a month and NMB48 (Osaka’s AKB48 sister group)’s Bokura no Eureka was everywhere, as well as AKB48’s Koi suru fortune cookie. Early 2010s was the peak of the AKB empire takeover, and everywhere you go you hear their stuff.

  6. Can’t go wrong with the “classic” stuff.

Kome Kome Club, Chage & Aska, Original Love, Dream Come True, Teresa Teng, Kubota Saki, Matsuda Seiko, Go Hiromi, etc.
