Interested in skiing in Japan this December. Given that a lot of things get booked up early is Japan, is something I need to book soon? Also, in Europe, I’m familiar with booking through tour operators. Is this the norm here?
Finally, how great is the risks of zero snow? I’ve had friends who have gone on ski trips in the past and due to warmer weather than expected had no chance to ski.
Many thanks

When in December?
Don’t do it. I lived in niseko in 2010 and there was nothing open until maybe December 26th. What was open was nothing special. Granted that was somewhat outside the norm but skiing in December in Japan is basically like October /November in the US.
This year will be warmer than average.
Just look up the resort you want to go to and look at their snow depth. Another option is to look on a comprehensive snow report site [https://snowjapan.com/japan-daily-snow-weather-reports/official-snow-depth](https://snowjapan.com/japan-daily-snow-weather-reports/official-snow-depth)
Snow doesn’t typically get very heavy until after the new year except at the highest altitudes, and I’m going to assume that it’s getting even later due to global warming and this being the warmest year ever recorded in the history of time itself.
So definitely check the info on snow depth on the resort websites.
