What is your opinion on coffee jelly?

I swear, everyone in Japan seems to love coffee jelly. Just ordered one of the Halloween Frappuccinos they have, the Boooo one, I took a sip and instantly, jelly. Yes I accept 100% it’s my fault I didn’t read the sign properly, tbf I didn’t even know you could get coffee jelly in Frappuccino’s but… yeah. Coffee jelly makes me want to 🤮 and I don’t think I can finish this.

Is it just me?

Edit: could not drink, felt so bad but I had to pour it away 😬😂

  1. coffee jelly as a standalone dessert? fantastic

as a topping in your drink? I’d rather grass jelly, wish it was more popular in Japan

  2. It’s like drinking bubble tea for the first time…. it feels ‘unnatural’.
You get used to it after a while.

  3. Coffee jelly as dessert with heavy cream topped with a bit of whipped cream…🤌🏻

  4. I thought it was chocolate pudding when my wife gave me some. I hate coffee so it left a scar lol

  5. I’m neutral on jelly, but I love coffee and coffee jelly. OP, if you have a texture aversion thing going on, can you eat rice drowned in tea? (Ochazuke?) I like rice drowned in tea. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|yummy)

  6. I dislike jelly – any jelly – for its consistency.

I also dislike anything “coffee flavored” that isn’t just hot coffee.

Coffee jelly sounds disgusting to me.

  7. Lol I love that I opened reddit and read this as I’m waiting for mine to be made.
I do like coffee jellies so let’s see if I like it!

  8. I must be blind because I never realized/noticed all the coffee jelly stuff even when I first lived here (went home for awhile).

First time I heard about it was because of the anime Saiki Kusuo and I was like “is that a thing? Is it actually that good?” Because the MC is crazy about it.

Next time I moved to Japan I started seeing it everywhere lmaoo. But I dont like coffee to begin with so never tried it until just recently and I was like meh. Flavour is like Kopiko (coffee lolly common in Asia) and texture/look reminds me of grass jelly. I won’t be surprised moving forwards if I have _accidents_ mistaking it for grass jelly (which I love) lol.

  9. I feel like with coffee jelly it’s a hit or miss.
I make my own coffee jelly by making the coffee taste strong and then with condensed milk on top is good!
But coffee jelly at stores or in drinks don’t really work for me, to me the coffee doesn’t taste good.

  10. Coffee jelly is the only coffe I will have.

Frappuccinos are the least likely for me to ever try them because of the sugar and the milk and how little they taste like coffee.

  11. I’ve made the same mistake. Went to Komeda Coffee and ordered what I thought was an iced coffee with some whipped cream on top. Just said “oh this looks nice” and my wife ordered it for me. Turned out to be mostly Jelly. Flavour wasn’t bad, but I just don’t like the texture of jelly in a drink. Can’t stand tapioca either…

  12. Excuse me I ordered a TRADITIONAL Boo Frappuccino. Pumpkin pudding on the bottom? Of course that’s a classic Frappucino. But Coffee Jelly!? Wtf

  13. I am sure someone else has commented, but it doesn’t have coffee jelly in it. It has pumpkin pudding in it.

  14. I totally had to read through the comments to get the gist that you had coffee jelly in your drink, so like a coffee boba tea type of concoction? Yeah I would pass on that as well.

Now for the ultimate dessert idea, try coffee jelly with Khalua. It is quite good and can have a nice kick on an empty stomach.

  15. The booo frappaccino does not have coffee jelly in it. I just ordered it yesterday, the texture you’re talking about is pumpkin pudding! I thought it was so delicious!

  16. Coffee jelly is great but that Starbucks Halloween drink looks horrid. I don’t think I’d want any kind of jelly texture in a frapp.

  17. I think they taste wonderful. Thanks for the reminder, I need to make my way to my local Starbucks. 😂

  18. In the US, I only buy orange juice with pulp. Love coffee jelly as well. I love those drinks that you shake in a can that are jelly-like as well. Custard pudding is one of my favorite sweets.

On the other hand I hate the texture of sashimi, clams, oysters and mushrooms, so everyone’s got their own likes and dislikes

  19. Like coffee, like jelly but coffee jelly? Pass lol. I can drink it if I end up with it in a drink b/c forgot to read the small print or something but I wouldn’t order something with it deliberately.

  20. I’d rather have coffee jelly in my coffee, after all it’s coffee based, than something that doesn’t belong there like pumpkin spices and whatnot.

  21. I love it, some friends disagree with me, but for me if it has coffee jelly it increases the likelihood I buy it.

  22. I’m afraid to try it – I don’t really like jelly but the agar stuff in アンミツis only edible with tons of syrup in my opinion

  23. Coffee Jelly and those fruit and cream sandwiches are the two Japanese foods I just don’t understand

  24. It’s a Japanese thing. I do not like coffee jelly at all. Mint jelly? Yes, especially on lamb. Raspberry jelly? Absolutely.

  25. LOL. You get used to it. Jellies of all sorts are popular here. My son eats konnyaku jellies all the time and wife likes ponzu jelly on oysters. I personally don’t like the feel of it at all but it is a thing!
