Which is stupider: ignoring an ad hominem from a Japanese coworker and allowing the behavior to continue forever, or straightly telling them their comments were unnecessary and disrupting the wa so they’ll never do it again?
On Monday the city told us all the third year ALTs can stay a fourth year. Said paperwork is coming. Didn’t want to trust it until I had said paperwork, but I do believe my supervisor and all the supervisors. Mine even mentioned “the pay goes up a little so save money and achieve your dreams.” Last night after work, I get a phone call saying to go to city hall on Monday morning about my contract. Sounds good right? Friend’s supervisor sent him an email saying that apparently due to budget concerns they want to redact their decision to let us stay a fourth year so we need to come with good reasons to keep us. Like WHAT?!? The 4th year JET salary isn’t a secret and people in that office did know so either someone is an idiot or they are doing a bait and switch. So, now we have to show up Monday morning and hope they either let us stay or give us transfer paperwork, which is due on Tuesday.
So, any suggests for how to deal with a government office trying to screw us over? I have a very hard time believing they weren’t fully aware of the pay increase when they made the decision to keep us.
How do you all clean your fridge here? Back home i would mix water with white vinegar but white vinegar is very expensive here so I won’t be able to buy it.

What is the benefit of having the bath in the 1F next to the kitchen? Trying to move into a house but almost every house catalog or 建売 I see has the bath/washing machine in the 1F, away from your clothes in your closet and away from your bed. Every 2-story home I lived in as a kid had the bath in the 2nd floor. For me it is just natural.
I could understand if it’s for the water pressure, depending on the region obviously, but I still don’t think it’s worth inconveniencing myself for life instead of getting a pump. Are there other logical reasons?
I googled it in japanese and I get a bunch of trivial reasons which still can’t convince me. I still plan to cover the expenses of designing our own house, but it still bugs me not knowing why this is the norm here. Has anyone’s lives been changed from having the bath away from your rooms?
New resident here, what are your profits for keeping garbage sorting time to a minimum? I see that buying some multi-bin trashcan is in my future, but how can I reduce the time spent washing, crushing, and label removing? Any tips on that front?
Is it better to have a set time on Sunday afternoons for that stuff? Do you keep a bucket of water for soaking labels off over days?
