Itinerary check: 17 nights in November

7 nights Tokyo, 2 nights Kinosaki, 5 nights Kyoto, 1 night Koyasan, 2 nights Miyajima. All hotels are booked, I’m going this week.

* Day 0 – Land, go to hotel, go to bed, eat somewhere quick between landing and bed.

* Day 1 – Wake up early, go to Asakusa, Sensoji temple. Walk around Asakusa. Take the monorail ro Odaiba by 9:45am.
teamLab Planet – 11:30am-1:30pm. After this I don’t really want to do anything else in Odaiba, just check out the Gundam and Statue of Liberty. I don’t want to do Toyosu Market really.
Take the 3:10pm Emeraldas water bus from Odaiba Seaside Park back to Asakusa (arrive at 4:00pm). Go back to Akihabara hotel, walk around Akihabara until things close around 7pm.

* Day 2 – Shinjuku and Shibuya. Shinjuku Gyoen, Meiji Shrine. Harajuku too? Shibuya Sky reserved at sunset.

* Day 3 – Tokyo, **UNPLANNED** I can do something different on this day. I was thinking about doing another day trip, but Nikko I would want to do at least 1 night there to see everything I want to see. And Kawaguchiko and Hakone don’t really call to me too much. I could split Shinjuku and Shibuya to this day?

* Day 4 – Tokyo, Ueno, Tokyo National Museum. **Not sure what else to do on this day?** Maybe go back to Asakusa, or Ginza?

* Day 5 – Day trip to Kamakura

* Day 6 – Kichijoji, Koenji, or Jiyugaoka, wander around one of these neighborhoods. I may move one of these three neighborhoods to the third day which is unplanned.

* Day 7 – Tokyo to Kinosaki

* Day 8 – Kinosaki, relax in onsens

* Day 9 – Kinosaki to Kyoto

* Day 10 – Kyoto, Arashiyama, monkey park, Nijo Castle

* Day 11 – Kyoto, **Day trip to Nara,** Fushimi-Inari at sunset

* Day 12 – Kyoto See temples in eastern Kyoto.

* Day 13 – Kyoto, **day trip Osaka.** Dotonbori, not sure what else to do

* Day 14 – Kyoto to Koyasan, staying at temple. Dinner then Okunoin cemetery tour at night

* Day 15 – Koyasan to Miyajima. Himeji Castle on the way.

* Day 16 – Miyajima, go to Hiroshima in morning. Relax on last full day in Japan.

* Day 17 – Hiroshima flight to Tokyo. Fly out of Tokyo to go home.

Thanks for any and all input!

  1. For Tokyo suburbs, I always enjoyed walking around Shimokitazawa. It has a nice artsy vibe, great thrift stores, and nice small coffee shops.

    For Osaka, Minoo Park hike?

  2. Your unplanned day in Tokyo could be Akihabara or Ikebukoro. It’s pretty cool. Or trip to Kichijoji or Jiyugaoka (Jiyugaoka is better).

  3. Kichijoji and Koenji are younger people’s places; Jiyugaoka is for aspiring rich people. I’d recommend Kichijoji for a visitor because there’s more to see there, including some pretty temples, and it’s relatively compact. There’s a popular park near the station also. It has the bonus of having a covered shopping/cultural arcade that will make for a more relaxing visit if it rains.
