TLDR: Any way (in terms of taxi etiquette) to avoid using a taxi driver you know is terrible?
One taxi driver always waits to pick up passengers at my local station, but is extremely grumpy and reckless, and his car is a mess. He doesn’t use any aisatsu and perpetually looks upset. The other day I asked him to open his trunk for my daughter’s stroller, and it was full of grocery bags of what looked like old garbage. I said it looked like the stroller wouldn’t fit, hoping maybe it would be an excuse to not ride, and he barked, “hairu yaro!” and jammed the stroller on top of all his trash. So much for that plan, I guess.
What I really want to do is just wait for a driver to pull up behind him and use the second driver, but is that violating some sacred taxi code? Surely this is a thing that happens sometimes–what do you do? I thought about contacting someone, but even if I wanted to complain about how unpleasant it is to ride with him, he’s an independent driver, so there’s no taxi company I can contact (maybe a taxi drivers’ association?). And even if I called, I seriously doubt my call would result in him buzzing off. I mostly just want to avoid him.
