8 Day Trip To Japan

We will be doing an 8 day trip to Japan in March. We plan on doing 6 days in Tokyo and 2 days in Kyoto. One day in Tokyo will be in Disney, just to experience it.

We plan on doing Akihabara (sp), Shinjuku, Sky Tree or Tokyo Tower, visit any Pokémon Center, the former Sega Arcade if open, Odaiba area, TeamLabs, Sensji-Temple, and the ghibli museum.

In Kyoto: the inari Shrine, Kinkakuji, and Kiyomizu.

Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or suggestions? Anything else we should do?

And if anyone could. Would the Suica card be a good investment? I know it works in Tokyo, but will it work in Kyoto as well?

  1. IC cards are convenient to have, and will work in both cities. Suica is just one of the major regional companies that issue the IC card standard so Suica or any other regional one would work in both cities. You will want to stay up to date on IC card chip shortage news. Some cards are not currently available. Lots of posts on Reddit, YT videos etc on what your alternatives are. (Ex temporary visitor cards, Apple Pay electronic version)

  2. We did bamboo forest and after that went up to see the monkey park in Kyoto. I’d recommend that. We just did 8 days in Japan got back last wed. We split it up though did 2 days in Tokyo 3 days in Kyoto where we went to Osaka kobe and nara in that time. Then back to Tokyo for our last 2 nights. Overall I feel we saw everything we needed too. Clearly would have loved to spend much longer in Japan but for the short trip we saw so much.

  3. If you’re going in the second half of March, book the Ghibli Museum the moment it’s possible: schools are between academic years in late March, and it’ll be jammed.
