First tempura – learned a lot and would love tips!


Definitely learned a lot about temp control with the oil, how different vegetables react based on moisture, and to keep working on my technique in general. Overall pretty tasty though!

Tips are absolutely welcome!

  1. Fuck, looks great. I had a week span of me just doing tempura. The shrimp should be massaged so its better for frying

  2. As someone else said, go easier on the coating. I rarely eat fried food, but I don’t mind tempura because it very lightly coated. That said, I suck at making it. So good for even trying!

  3. Make sure you use cold even chilled water when making tempura batter. I like to put a bottle of water in the freezer for 30-1hr before and use that.
