not sure what internet service to get.

im currently living in Koga-shi, ibaraki and i’ve only been here a few weeks, living off my pocket wifi which will expire in a week. i intend to extend it as i know getting a connection takes a while. what are some affordable providers that work in my area? would i need to see if a certain company even works on my apartment/city? any suggestions? my japanese ability is not conversational so if they have english support it would be good otherwise id need to bother some japanese english teachers for help.

  1. I recommend [https://asahi-net.jp/en/](https://asahi-net.jp/en/). I’ve been using their FTTH fiber-optic broadband their for the last 5+ years without any problem. They’re the only ISP with full English support that I could find back then. I pay 770 yen a month for their service fee on top of monthly internet service fee (3,000 yen something).

Contact them (contact information can be found on their website) see if your place is covered, if it is, they will tell you what to do next.

  2. I use Nuro 2G.
Switched from Softbank Hikari and it was the best thing I ever did.

I pay 980 during 1 year, then 5200 after that.
Speed is incredible. Can download games like GTA 5 that is 90 GB in just 40 Minutes.

  3. You might want to ask your property agent/landlord about what can work in your building, because sometimes they have limitations on that. Sometimes you can just use the provider that everyone else in the building is using. But seconding another comment, Asahi Net is good and is in English. They provide the service but the internet cable itself is provided by a different company (in my case its NTT East with their flet’s hikari) so you have to contact both. Here’s NTT’s english site with their english speaking rep number https://flets.com/english/
