  2. Both of those things are covered by legislation. You’re legally allowed at least 10 paid holidays per year (although your employer can pick up to five of those days for you, usually obon and/new years). I’d expect this to be pro-rated over the time of your internship if it’s less than a year.

    Whether your employer is responsible for your health insurance or not depends on the size of the company, but if they’re big enough that they can sponsor an intern for a visa they’re probably big enough that they’re responsible for the interns health insurance.

    Generally employers in Japan also pay for your commute to and from work as they’re legally responsible for you during this time. If you’re driving to work and get into a car accident your employer is partially liable for damages (both to you and to whoever you hit). So they make you take the train if possible (and pay for it).
