Reusing bicycle parts

I have a road bike, and the frame has been broken for a long time. I’m thinking about buying a new and cheap road bike and using the parts from my old bike on the new one.

But I’m curious about the licensing. Is it really okay to change all the parts on a bike? Can the police understand that I’ve changed the parts from the license? Should I go to a bicycle shop to ask for help with changing the parts? Because I don’t know if they would want to help me in this somewhat sketchy situation.

  1. The frame is the only thing that is registered. Of course your can change parts. Unless you wreck the bike, a frame will last a lifetime while all the parts will eventually need to be replaced.

  2. With a new frame, it’ll be a new bike. Unless you’re good with wrenching, and have some special tools, have a bike shop do most/all of it–esp the headset and bottom bracket.

  3. I’ve done the same with my bike. I bought a second hand frame and just moved everything over. I still haven’t got around to registering it, though.

  4. As I understand it, if you are buying a new frame you are creating a new bike, I was talking to a roadie friend a few weeks ago about this very subject, the bike registration is the easy part, the BB is the bit that stressed him out.
