Jobs with a CS Degree

Hey guys,

To make it short, I have a computer science degree, as well as a good amount of front end knowledge including Vanilla JavaScript/React.

I recently graduated so no experience on the job yet, but I’ve made lots of advanced applications over the years.

I have passed the JLPT N2 as well.

I’ve read through a lot of forums which all say not to leave America, and to just do software here as it pays more. They say most people end up stuck teaching and getting paid not much at all.

Is there anything I can do? I’m sick of living in the US. I have lived in 15 different states and just tired of it all.

Could use some advice. Also yes, I have been to Japan a few times but only visiting.

  2. You 100% have the Japanese and CS knowledge to get a job here. Of course, as you know, you will be taking a pay cut, but you will have to weigh if that it worth it for you.

I’d say give it a shot if you are able to find a company to sponsor you. You will be able to live a pretty comfortable life in Japan (especially if you can remote or hybrid remote and live in a cheaper area).

  3. Check out tokyodev.com and other resources. You’ll still take a paycut but you may be paid well enough relative to the cost of living to make it worth it.

  4. Market right now is very shit globally tbh. I quit my job and came here on a working holiday visa (2.5 years experience), in 1 month I got 1 interview and have already applied literally everywhere but I also sent out a chunk of applications to positions in my home country with my old address and not a single callback so I’d say it doesnt hurt to apply and if you get it you get it cool, but also now is not the time to be picky.

Im using this as a gap year as graduating during covid meant I never really got a chance to try anything out so its not the end of the world if I dont find a job within the year. I also have enough to keep my life enjoyable saved up for the year, but yeah I dont advise coming here like this if your goal is only work.

Applying online through linked and recruiters wont hurt just dont expect to get much and apply in your home region too just to get something untl the market recovers whenever that is.
