Need advice on handling unauthorized bank transactions by Amazon

Hi guys

Last week I ordered some cosmetic products on Amazon (products sold by a 3rd party) and paid with my foreign bank account, that’s linked to my Amazon account. They deducted the money and I went about my day, last night I checked my banking app to discover an unauthorized deduction from Amazon, I haven’t ordered anything else since then. My banking app clearly states that it’s AmazonJP but that transaction isn’t showing on the Amazon app. This has happened before, I called my bank and they traced it to Amazon in Japan, I then emailed Amazon customer service and they said they couldn’t see the unauthorized transaction on their end, said they couldn’t do anything about it. I eventually got frustrated with their lack of action and decided to let it go. These unauthorized transactions ONLY happen when I shop with Amazon and always a few days after the original/approved transaction.

TLRD: Amazon takes money from my foreign bank account, via unknown transactions, customer services knows nothing, how do I proceed?

Apologies for the iffy format and grammatical errors I’m on Mobile.

  1. If amazon can’t see it on their end than there isn’t really anything they can do about it. Its likely your bank is charging your card with a temporary conversion rate at the time of purchase and then charging again when its been finalized. Do you have a credit later to your card?

  2. Why in the world are you using this form of payment, especially after you’ve already had annoyances with it in the past? Just pay a different way.

  3. Did you buy multiple things that were shipped separately? Or check if the transaction amount matches what you ordered?

Amazon JP has a habit of charging for some products *when* they are shipped.

So you might got charged for let’s say 2 items immediately and then later for the 3rd one when it shipped.

  4. If it’s an issue with your account being hacked, change your password. Then, you can have Amazon require a temporary password sent to your phone for each login attempt.
