Finding lost items on the train, how to?

I left a lap top on the train last Sunday and it’s either 田園都市線 or 山手線. I’m not sure what to contact about it. Do I have to actually go into the station, can I call or email?

This is a first for me, so I thought I’d ask here first.

EDIT: I went to Tokyo Station to pick up my computer today. The whole process was smooth, from phone call to claiming it.

  1. Each operator has their own procedures, e.g. for the Den en Toshi line the Tokyu Railways policy is here: [https://www.tokyu.co.jp/global/railway/guide/contact/](https://www.tokyu.co.jp/global/railway/guide/contact/)

Seems like most of them have phone numbers you can call.

Incidentally, last week I lost a shopping bag on a direct mutual train from Shibuya to Asakadai (starts as the Fukutoshin line, ends as the Tobu Tojo line) and was unsure which operator to contact. In that case your best bet may be to go to the connecting station (in my case Ikebukuro) and ask the staff there. After I had finished my business in Asaka a couple hours later, I went back to Asakadai and asked about my bag, but they said they hadn’t found it. After I rode to Ikebukuro they were able to locate it (it was being held in Kasumigaseki) and I was able to pick it up.

  2. Contact the train lines. When I lost my phone on the Odakyu line, they were able to find it, tell me which station’s lost and found to go to, and even provided me a free ticket to go get it and come back.

  3. You lost a computer on Sunday and you’re just know getting around to wonder what you should do about it? damn, forgetting my ¥3k sunglasses on the train was in my head all weekend

  4. Found a camera+lens kit some time ago, just gave it to the station staff…I suppose/hope whoever found your laptop did the same.
