Entering without using student visa initially.

Hey everyone trying to get a game plan here

America citizen if this matters.

I have a COE for a student visa for Language school starting in January. They issued the COE while I was in the Japan and I’m going to physically pick it up from the school. My visitor status is good until end of January.

I completely understand the normal process for this and that you cant really have your visa processed here anymore now that they are actually enforcing the rule. But guess there’s no reason not to try given the situation.

The timing for this school is pretty awkward as they suggest me to “arrive” two weeks before start which puts this right on Christmas Day. I have no plans so that doesn’t matter but trying to fly around that time is insane.

My consulate would be NYC as that was my last address jurisdiction but I have no real residence in the USA anymore since being forced to sell my house and have been traveling the last 6 months. So don’t really feel like having to go be homeless for a month in NYC waiting for a flight back while I’m already paying for my apartment here in Japan.

So if immigration in Tokyo tells me to pound sand I guess my only options are to fly to Hawaii and bug them to do it since the flights are easier to catch back and if they don’t mail it off to NYC and pray it doesn’t get lost in the mail to and from Hawaii. Then comeback with my landing permission and not use it or go sit in Korea until my student entry visa window opens up and enter on the student visa.

Any recent success story’s with temporary visitor to student from anyone? I have seen recently that they will do it for a work visa if the coe was issued within the temporary visitor status but that’s a whole different situation.
