ただになる

Hi, I was doing the JLPT N4 practice test and found this word, but it seems like I cannot find any clear translation. This is the context:

500グラム以上頼むと、ただになります

  1. ただ = free

    なる = become

    It’s basically saying it’s free if you ask for more than 500 grams.

    I’d recommend reviewing how なる works.

    Since ただ is a noun you have to connect the two with に.

    >ただ**に**なる

    なる is meant to symbolize a change of situation/state, it wasn’t free before but if X happens then it becomes free. When translating it to english you don’t always need to use the word “become” though (just like i didn’t above)
