I just got done with a second interview at an ALT dispatch company. During the first interview the head of the school only asked me a lot of questions. He then scheduled a second interview for tonight and asked me to bring any questions I might have. I had a lot. (14 questions about the company, worker protection, the job, the area the school is in, and moving to Japan.) After about thirty minutes of me asking questions; the president of the company asked me to confirm that I was interested in working in Japan long term. (2 or 3 years) Than he explained the rest of the hiring process. They will narrow down the hiring pool in October, and if they need to, make a decision in November. He then explained the VISA process to me and asked if I had any questions. And that was an interview.
I have two modes of thinking. If he explained the remainder of the hiring process, and VISA process; he must be interested, and the interview went well. The second is that seems how he barely asked me anything, then that is not a good sign. So, is it a good sign that the company only asked me a few questions during the interview?

If it was the same person conducting the interview it doesn’t surprise me he didn’t have many questions left for you, presumably he asked what he wanted in the initial interview.
Honestly too many questions is a thing too
Was the president of the company only there for the second interview? Usually the second interview is for the president to rubber-stamp the final choices. Basically all you had to do was not annoy or put him off in any way.
You interview probably went fine.
You might want to say you are staying for longer in the future; 5+ years. If they have a teacher who is popular placed in a school, they want them to stay a long time. Basically, once the teacher is placed in the school, agents do nothing but get paid, and a teacher leaving can mean the end of the money train if they client school goes with another agency.
I would say you asked too many questions. While knowing what you are getting into is important, grilling the CEO for 30 minutes seems inappropriate, unless it was a very positive and friendly conversation.
Do they actually have any jobs to offer you? How many ALTs do they currently employ? Do you have an interview with the school prior to being selected? Are you competing with people in Japan?
Which company is it? It might just help to give better advice.
“I just got done with a second interview”? And you’re wanting to teach English 🙂
For future reference. It’s Japan. Don’t ask questions.
Sorry.
He saw that you had a pulse. No further questions needed
Dispatch Company interview…..head of the school? What?
ALT dispatch companies tend to employ anyone with a pulse.
silence in the end is a sign of reapect by the way. Keep silent together around 5 minutes before leaving. 沈黙する
