Japanese Restaurant opened today. This one the first dish that I got.. thoughts??

The sushi, obviously the best part, was called a “Fancy Salmon Roll.” It was, by far, the best sushi I had had in years. 🙌🏼

  1. I don’t like gatekeeping who can and can’t make food.

You don’t have to be Canadian to make poutine. You don’t have to be Japanese to make sushi.

That being said, I’m not getting traditional/authentic vibes here.

While I’m a bit of a purist, deep fried maki always makes me smile.

  2. It looks more like a generic Asian food place

The rolls look more like korean Gimbap

The noodles look like Generic attempt at Ramen (Egg is hard boiled)

The and the soup looks like typical Chinese Wanton soup

  3. I don’t think it’s Japanese owned tho. How ramen topping is plated and the way the roll looks makes me think Japanese Japanese place would not do it like this

Probably Korean owned Japanese restaurant would be my guess

  4. Im going to have to be the negative one and say it looks unappetizing. The egg looks over cooked, that cake looks like some Costco BS that’s probably way too sugar packed, and you say it’s salmon, but it looks more like tuna 🤔. That pork looks like gellatin

For reference: I live in Germany and just had sushi last night. I feel like I am getting diabetes just looking at that cake. Cake like that does not exist here

Edit: took out the deep fried part as maybe that is normal

Edit 2: now I feel bad for being negative as my wife thinks it looks good (except the cake)

  5. That looks very much like Japanese food outside of Japan, without even knowing the exact place.

  6. I live in Japan and i wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole 😆. The sushi looks good tho. The wanna be ramen is a disaster with so much moyashi and wonton is Chinese food. The owners are for sure Chinese. Cake is 🤮

  7. It has already been said a couple of times that it doesn’t look very Japanese… but what’s with this plastic plates?

  8. Doesn’t look Japanese, as many have said. But looks like some Asian fusion deal. And I’m glad you liked it! I imagine a lot of Americans would enjoy this.

  9. I don’t like rolls that are too big to eat in one bite, I like to taste all the flavors together, not one flavor in one bite, and other flavors in the second bite.

  10. That egg looks dry af, and I see you got the traditional japanese cake slice with sprinkles too.

  11. You were quite hungry. I’ll also agree doesn’t exactly look inspired so depends where you set the bar.
