  1. Extremely new to driving (not only in Japan).

The other day while waiting at an intersection at the front (going forward direction), an ambulance came from the back. It was a three lane road on my side (left straight right) and two lane on the opposing side. The opposing lane as well as all three lanes on my side were really full of cars.

Normally you are not supposed to enter the intersection in such situations and let the ambulance go first. The ambulance however said 前の方直進してくださいー. So after a brief hesitation and hearing the comms two or three times, I went ahead (through the intersection and passed it). I assumed others would follow me but didn’t. I kind of panicked and didn’t see where the ambulance eventually went afterwards.

Did I do the right thing? Was I supposed to go all the way through or was the ambulance telling me to go a bit into the middle so it can squeeze between (although I don’t think they could; my right side was also full or cars)
