Buying a horse

Hello!

So I’m thinking about buying a horse in Japan.
I’m mostly interested in older horses (around 7-10 years old) or saving horses that are waiting for slaughter but still have a life waiting for them because they’re young or healthy… (I know it’s a rare case)

Can anyone tell websites or places that I could check for buying a horse like this?

Thank you!

  1. Also very delicious. Basashi (raw horse) is excellent in Japan.

I can’t imagine the time and commitment it would take to own a horse in Japan. And space. You’d probably have to own a bunch of rural land.

Edit: You can go to any chain Izakaya in Japan and order it. Not really a special food in Japan.

  2. You are certainly special. I wish my friends would take me horse shopping one of these days…

  3. I’m sorry I have no clue how to buy a horse here, but I do have an old contact in Hokkaido I could possibly put you in touch with, if he hasn’t moved.

But… um.. 👉👈 If you buy the horse(s) and live anywhere remotely within driving distance of Tokyo and need help regularly exercising them… ✋✋✋✋✋🥹

  4. I’d say look for horse riding clubs and ask there. Unless you own farmland in the country side, you’ll probably need to board your horse in such a club to get them care and exercise regularly. And they are the most likely to know where to buy horses.

My uncle did exactly what you want to do in my home country and boarded it in a club and he was very happy for 5-10 years.

  5. Family friend in Tokyo has a/?some horses (for racing). I’ll ask

Incidentally I am having dinner at a horse restaurant with him in a few days.
