Advice on finding entry level UI/UX positions in Japan

Apologies in advance if this question has been asked elsewhere.
I’m self taught (currently working in a different industry in Japan) and really wanted to get a step into this industry and gain more experiences but I have been having difficulties finding entry level positions for UI/UX in Japan that doesn’t require > 3 years of experience. Is there any advice on where I should look or what I should do (I’m currently trying to improve my portfolio too)? I would love to learn more about your experience as a UI/UX designer as well! Thank you so much!

  1. it can be tough to land an entry-level ui/ux job in japan, especially if you’re self-taught. there’s a few things you could do – networking, for one. join local tech meetups, reach out to professionals on linkedin, build and maintain relationships. also, improving your portfolio is key – maybe consider working on some mock projects or doing some unpaid work to build it up. you could also try the japanese version of linkedin, called wantedly. it has a lot of startup companies looking for folks, many don’t require japanese language skills, and some might be willing to take on a junior ui/ux designer. lotsa luck in your search!

  2. Volunteering with some group like Code for Japan may find you contacts and polish your skills. There are many open source projects and communities.
