  2. Pretty amazed their cameras managed to capture the exact moment the plume of lava fountained out to form the islet.

  3. Any time I see the *prefecture* of Tokyo mentioned, which is the administrative division that includes all the tiny Pacific islands that are part of Japan, I am reminded of a local newscast here in Portland several years ago where they just straight up ignored that distinction between city and prefecture and declared, “There’s a volcano erupting in Tokyo!”

  4. Wonder if this one’s going to end up being a new part of Iwojima or if it’s gonna be its own piece of land.
