Frequently following national news like NHK or TBS you’ll often see these prefecture names pop-up so that could help too.
Also, after I visit or drive through a prefecture in Japan, the Kanji and location tends to really stick in my brain.

I mean I learned the 50 US states in alphabetical order in 2nd grade and it’s a permanent thing in my brain now!
