Never received health insurance payment letter

Hi all,

I came here as an exchange student some time ago. Back then, I went to the city ward to complete my registration and get health insurance.

They said everything was fine, but I have never received any payment card from the government.

I know that it is the law to go there and get a new one. But I am hesitant to, for two reasons:

i) I have two 100% insurances from back home that would cover any medical costs I incur;

ii) I will leave Japan in two months. I have not yet incurred any medicals costs nor do I expect to, as I generally never need to go to doctors.

So I am more inclined to simply wait it out and only pay if they send me a letter. After that, I would simply cancel my residency and insurance at the city ward and leave. Once again, if they charge me there I will pay.

However, I am unsure if this would have any impact on my future ability to travel to the country. I don’t want to obtain residency anymore, but will most likely travel to Japan a few more times. Since I am from an EU country, I don’t need a visa.

What are the chances of me being denied entry into Japan later if I don’t end up paying the insurance?
