Store gave me wrong item and has no return policy but I want it exchanged

Bought a couple of items at Comme Des Garcons Osaka last night and the staff gave me a wrong item. I was holding a t shirt that I was gonna buy and a staff member approached me and asked if I was gonna buy it with the other shirts ive been holding. I said yes and he took the items to get new stocks rather than the display shirts. He gave it back to me already in a sealed plastic and i paid it on the cashier, the cashier told me that there will be no returns etc. However when I got home I noticed I got the wrong item, the staff gave me a long sleeve shirt with the same design instead of a t shirt.

I want it returned and exchanged but I dont know how to do it without sounding rude or anything since I cant speak Japanese and I dont know if they will exchange it with the original item that ive wanted. Any help? Thank you!

  1. Priorities. Don’t worry too much about sounding rude when being understood is not trivial, especially when you do have a valid point and you’d be asking them to do their job.

If they can understand that it was their fault, they will probably accommodate you. That said, your receipt may be the only piece of evidence and it probably says that you bought the long sleeve one.

  2. Just go back to the store, talk to the staff and explain. 9/10 times you should be fine with a brand like CDG

  3. It’s technically not a return, but an exchange because they messed up so it should be fine.

  4. I have gotten so many things fixed/taken care of/adjusted just by the virtue of asking, even if this sub thinks Japanese people are robots that cannot do anything beyond the instruction manual.
