As others have said, Rakuten Mobile. When I was traveling back and forth to the US quite a bit, I was on Softbank, and they had the アメリカ放題 plan. Saved me a ton on charges.
[Rakuten’s Saikyo](https://network.mobile.rakuten.co.jp/fee/saikyo-plan/) plan, where the monthly price depends on the amount of data you use. It starts at JPY990/month if you use under 3Gb, and “unlimited” data is capped at JPY2,980/month.
[Free 2gb global roaming data](https://network.mobile.rakuten.co.jp/service/global/overseas/en/) (you can buy additional data at 500Y per 1Gb, or continue to use it at low speed). It also includes unlimited free outgoing calls and SMSs (but you have to use their voip app for it – but it also means you can make and receive calls/SMSs to/from Japan with no additional charges while overseas)
I use AU, travel abroad monthly, and their plan is decent. Depending on location 400-500 yen per day for 3gb data, but you need to prebook your travel dates. Can be done just be for flying via the AU app.
Softbank’s Americahodai plan is great if that’s where you are going
