….why?! I make the effort to walk to the women’s only carriage on my miserably long commute home.
However, almost every night a guy gets on! Why?! They’re not lost tourists. I’m sick of it. We have one carriage and men still feel the need to invade it!
Edit: for everyone saying check the sign – I did! It’s until 9am AND from 6pm until last train

night? isn’t women only stuff active during morning/ sometimes evening rush hour only? there’s usually a sign with schedule. at night when the train is empty it’s for everyone.
Do the women-only hours on your line include evenings? I know it varies from place to place but I’ve mostly only seen it go til 9am.
Aside from that, there’s really no punishment besides embarrassment for entering a women-only car. Feel free to speak up against them or notify train security if it’s causing you distress.
Be sure to read the platform writing, a lot of them stop being women’s only at night. The one I use in Osaka changes outside morning peak hours. If it’s an all day women’s car I agree with you. Sometimes guys really don’t notice until they are firmly planted into a seat and to their destination. Sometimes they don’t give a shit, I’ve seen old guys purposely get on and stare everyone in the eyes.
i got a women’s only carriage with my young child at about 8:52 the other morning and it had loads of men on it. The sign on the ground when I boarded said ladies only until 9am – i didn’t read the fine details though.
Anyway, it made me wonder why it was full of men too. We were on the tokyu toyoko line.
It’s only for the mornings.
Can’t speak for everyone but sometimes you just don’t notice.
I got into one once. It’s not a thing where i live, and I just hopped onto the train. I was basically at my destination where I noticed there was a high amount of women in there. And only as we were slowing down did I notice the pink banner and realized that’s why there were so many.
I know sometimes it’s written on the platform floor, and I usually stay clear of those, but if it’s only on the car itself it’s…harder to notice.
Plus as others say they have their own time zones sooo ymmv.
I definitely wouldn’t want to be considered a creep just cause i boarded without noticing. And I’d like to think that’s most of the cases?
Also, bold of you to assume someone’s gender /s
I went on it once at the designated hours. I was so embarrassed I just looked at the door and jumped off at the next station. The thought of just walking to the next car didn’t even cross my mind .
Men with disabilities or with children etc can ride the women’s cars. If you think they are 100% women only, you are mistaken.
Furthermore, I guess that person identified as a woman? Did you check their genitals to make sure you are not mistaken? How did this person invade you?
>we have one carriage
no, you have all the carriages. you even have one extra carriage more than men have.
Most women’s only carriages around Japan are only for the morning rush.
You need to check the sign. If it is at night, it’s perfectly ok for men to be there.
This must be a joke…
Edit: guess it’s not a joke. But if a couple of people not of your gender/sex (or whatever it is) exist in your general vicinity…then maybe some underlying issues need to be addressed.
I used to lol when I rode the women-only marked train on the weekend, packed with women giving me dirty looks despite my right to be there.
You can just feel the pure hatred towards men from OP. Imagine having to share some public space with opposite gender, disgusting… really?
My brother rushed into a train car once straight from the stair entrance to the platform as the train was just about to leave. He immediately sat down and closed his eyes for the long commute home. Only to be woken by a tap on the shoulder ten minutes later. A conductor talking him he was in the women’s only car. He was so embarrassed and rushed off into the next car. I’m surprised he ever told me about it. He’s pretty shy.
Happened right next to me the other day. A man hopped on and.. he was met with a lot of uncomfortable faces. After a few minutes of awkwardly looking around he quietly asks me if it’s the women’s only carriage. Once I told him it was he laughed awkwardly and fled as fast as he could to the adjacent car. I think some guys might just be like this gentleman, who just mistakenly get on the wrong car. Some care, some don’t.
I’ve checked the list of train lines with women only car in Japan. And Tsukuba Express is the only line which has that kind of timetable(-9am and 6pm-). So I guess you are taking it.
The [website](https://www.mir.co.jp/service/other/woman.html) says male passengers with physical disability or up to 12 can take it. If you see other kinds of men, I just don’t know why.
what train do you use?
I did a quick google and Keio line does have after 6pm ladies car, but only in between Shinjuku and Chofu duration.
Where do you even hop in?
What if they are gay or Trans? How would you know? You going to go all Islam or American and demand a genitalia check?
A child, disabled person, care taker of disabled person are officially allowed to ride women only carriages.
Also, the rule is merely request from stations, so legally men can
ride women only carriage. Some people are against the women only rule, so intentionally violate it.
And most importantly, many men don’t pay much attention which carriage is women only, typically women only carriage are less crowded and men often end up women only carriage unintentionally.
i got into one a while ago. yea i was watching youtube my fault so i didn’t realize at all. i ended up on it all the way until my station and realized when i got out, i was so embarrassed. i feel bad that you feel frustrated but some people make mistakes.
The women only car is not legally enforceable because there isn’t any law about it and is just a guideline that “most” people follow. It’s the same as how masking was never a law in Japan.
>We have one carriage and men still feel the need to invade it!
Technically in Japan it’s all voluntary, so a man has the same right to board the carriage as you do.
what a shitshow these comments are, what happened to rule 1 of the sub?
