I decided to ask here since i have limited interaction with Japanese people in real life. Also did Kendo. You have big respect from us here in Greece by the way! Speaking mostly highly if your name comes up.
1) Do the families consider a class/cast system when consider marrying their children? I have an Indian wife and I’m really curious. It’s an old feudal system but still goes in some places.
2) Are fixed marriages a thing?
3) Is the average family (in a small town) more conservative or open progressive minded ? Depends the place i guess…
4) Do adults watch/read mangas like Berserk ? Or is it also for teenagers? (No restrictions ?)
5) Back at the Titanic shipwreck a Japanese man saved himself but Japanese society condemned him for taking a spot in a boat. Is it still a cultural thing ?
6) Do Japanese who trace their family back to a samurai clan get any attention? Does it mean something to society ? I read one had a kenjutsu club.
7) Are western videogames popular there? Like Shogun 2 Total War.
8) Any cultural opinions in your society about my country ?
Bless you!
That’s a few of them.

This is an English language subreddit, and there aren’t many actual Japanese people here
Not Japanese but:
1) To my knowledge discrimination is illegal. There’s a historic class of people (burakumin) who were like the Indian Untouchable class. There’s apparently some discrimination against them. Survivors of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have also seen discrimination.
2) Arranged marriages still do exist, but it’s more like a match making service.
3) It would depend on the family dynamic.
4) Depends on the adult.
5) No idea.
6) To my knowledge, there’s familial pride, but most people don’t care.
7) No idea.
8) Not Japanese, so no comment.
1. only at the top levels where proven blood lines are a thing, they have arranged marriages but they can fight it.
2. only at the top
3. depends on location, job, heritage. That said, Japanese conservatism isn’t the same as the west.
4. Manga is for kids and outcasts.
5. yes. Honor is important. Kids and women first (in that order)
6. Yes. The highest social club requires proven bloodline lineage to the imperial throne, price or daimyo
7. COD ads are all over Akiba
8. Just touristy stuff.

Not Japanese but been here too long and tend to only use English on the internet.
I’m Japanese.
1. There is no caste system in Japan now. Parents think more about income, education, etc when their child marries.
2. We no longer have it in 21st century Japan.
3. They are generally conservative in rural areas.
4. Adults read manga and watch anime.
5. I don’t know that example. Tell me more if you want my opinion.
6. Most people don’t care even if you trace your family. It’s a private matter.
7. Not popular. And Xbox is not popular, either. Some Chinese or Korean games are popular like Genshin Impact.
8. What Japanese know about Greece in general is Greek myth, financial mess around 2010. And Greek alphabet like alpha, etc is used sometimes.
Got a few good answers, thank you. Anyone welcome!

I am Japanese.
Manga is read by people of all ages.
Western games are popular.
Fortnite and APEX.
I can answer 7 Shogun Total War + 2is distributed by Sega and yet it has been region locked and has never been available in Japan.
This is to avoid competing with the vastly inferior Japanese versions such as Nobunagas ambition.
Oh yeah and PC gaming is popular and Japanese gamers can be found in various popular games. Apex is massive here for example
