  4. Ok. Y’all really surprised about NJPW doing silly shit with titles? The company straight up created a women’s title, made a big deal about it and signed big name talent, generally did nothing with it, all just to create a second for reasons. This is business as usual.

  5. Honestly, and maybe I’m in minority, but I think it makes sense to ditch the US title name. The original idea, it seemed to me anyways, was to make it the defacto title of expansion. But then it became the companies 2 belt, and Strong happened with all its own belts, and I remember constantly people asking, especially in the early strong days, why the US title wasn’t being defended in the US shows. So, I get it. I just hope whatever it is called looks as good as the US title did because it was beautiful.

  6. I hope they mean they’re designing a new US Championship. For Ospreay to do all that he did with that belt… for it to get hammered to pieces and walk into Wrestle Kingdom with an entirely different title would be criminal.

    **sigh.** Let’s wait and see what they come up with..

  7. Just bring back the IWGP Intercontinental title, makes more sense to have then the IWGP US Championship

  11. 1. Call it the Intercontinental title.

    2. Have Ospreay win it.

    3.Have Naito beat SANADA.

    4. Have Natio deny the new belts existence at NY Dash, his is the IC AND Heavyweight.

    5. They feud. Ospreay wins and unifies the titles only to split them and bring back the belts.

  12. Disappointed. I get that plans for a US expansion have changed, but I really don’t care for the names of championships, lineage is (in my opinion) what makes a title important.

    Look at TNA for example “X-Division” is a name that doesn’t really mean anything, but knowing it’s the title that guys like Styles, Daniel’s, Joe and other legendary TNA wrestlers held, it makes it a big deal when young guys like Trey Miguel win it.

    I felt the US title was just getting to that level of prestige, with guys like Kenny, Ospreay, Mox, Juice and others.

    Oh well though

  15. I personally think the title belt situation in all of pro-wrestling is pretty messy. There’s just way too many. It would be wise, in my opinion, if New Japan thinned the herd.
