  1. What would happen if I drive my 2005 diesel vehicle in cities where it isn’t allowed. For example Tokyo and Yokohama. How would they even know?

  2. For all those who come from non-anglophone cultures and have diacritics (accent marks) in your name, how does Japan deal with this? For reasons, I have had to change my name in my home country and it now contains, on official paperwork, an accented character in my last name. Will places like immigration etc. insist on including the accents to match passport (which I feel like will make it even harder in non-govt situations here) or insist on removing them to match the machine readable version?

  3. How long can shaken take? I brought my car in on the 31st and I still haven’t gotten it back. When I brought it in I asked them how long it would take and they said they didn’t know because it depends what needs to be done. Does anyone have any experience with shaken taking a while and what that means?

Also I’m not worried about cost. I rent my car from a mechanic and brought it there. Shaken and all maintenance is included. At the moment I have a loaner car but I want my other car back 🙁

  4. Has anybody ever used Rakuten Rebates?

    https://www.rebates.jp/

Is it worth it? My primary credit card is a Rakuten card which I use for pretty much everything, so I’m all about earning as many points as possible.

  5. When are you supposed to open those vent things in your apartment? Is it supposed to be the same as opening a window? Why do they exist?

  6. Anyone work or worked in the Keihanna area in Kansai? I got a job offer there and I was looking around on Google Street View and it kind of looks like where I grew up in suburban NY xD lots of big office buildings spaced far apart. I didn’t actually get to visit the office because they interviewed me at their HQ in Tokyo. Keihanna definitely looks like the kind of place where you’d need a car if you wanted to live there. I heard a lot of people live in either Osaka/Kyoto/Nara and commute in. I’m a city person so I’d probably want to do that, but I’m not sure which city would be best. If anyone works / has worked in that area I’d be happy to hear about your experiences in general, and also thoughts about the different possible areas to live, whether you lived in Keihanna or in one of the cities.

  7. Americans, what’s the best way to look at car sales in the states? I tried craigslist but you have to search in really small areas rather than like an entire state. I just want to browse

  8. I have hard green mineral deposits on the faucet above my toilet tank. I’ve tried wrapping it with vinegar-soaked paper towels, but it refuses to come off. (Maybe I didn’t leave them on long enough idk) Any other technique I should try before I take a razor blade to it?

  9. Asking for a friend. She has moved out of the country and she lost access to her online banking with Shinsei before transferring all her savings. Probably the mail bounced back from her old address. Anyone knows if Shinsei can help with the transfer without her coming back to Japan to sort this out? I’m sure I’ve seen posts like this before but can’t remember what the solution was

  10. Our office strip lights are quite harsh, any recommendations for some kind of diffuser or something like that? We were imagining some kind of white cloth we can tack to the ceiling so its still light without being so harsh.

  11. Does anyone know if carry-on liquids for domestic flights have a limit? I can only find information regarding international flights (even Japanese search). I want to bring maple syrup and jam (over 100ml) for my friend in FUK.

  12. I made a mistake and used my ic card at the train station rather than my commuter pass. I didnt go through the gate and tried to talk to someone at the window to cancel it but nobody was there and my train was about to arrive so I used my commuter pass and went through. Does the ic card cancel the entry if you dont go through or do I need to talk to someone tomorrow? All of this in osaka with a pitapa card

  13. Sony store or Amazon for preordering the new PS5 ? First console I buy since the Switch 6 years ago, it was my birthday yesterday huehuehue
