In the manga Slam Dunk, do a lot of characters have unusual/old-fashioned names?

I’m re-reading Slam Dunk after studying Japanese for a few years, and maybe it’s just me, but a lot of first names feel slightly unusual or perhaps old fashioned, so I’m wondering if I’m imagining things or if it’s actually a quirk the author intentionally went for. For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s a high school basketball story set in Kanagawa around the late 90s. Some of the names that ring that way to me (all boys’ names):

– Hanamichi
– Kiminobu
– Kaede
– Sōichirō
– Shinichi
– Nobunaga (!)
– Chūichirō
– Nozomi
– Kicchō

I know most of these names “exist” but to my non-native understanding they sound either very rare in general or not particularly common for kids born in the 80s/late 70s. Am I completely off the mark?
