Orange rust appearing around the kitchen sink drain.

Edit: photos in comments

What’s causing it and why does it keep showing up?

I clean my sink regularly, including the inside of the drain. I use those drain tablets, leave a deodorizer in the basket, and replace the basket net regularly. I’ve even deep scraped with baking soda several times, to scrape out all the orange gunk.

But then it re-appears.

What’s causing it, and how do I get rid of it for good?

For added context, I’ve lived in my current apartment for three years. This has only happened once before, in the summer time, because I forgot to replace the basket net before going on a trip for the weekend.

  1. Do you use those chlorine based drain pellets? Is it like a solid white pellet encased in a plastic cage? Those will rust metal.

You have to use anti rust remover and then have it repolished/refinished. The coating was damaged and scraping off the surface rust will just cause it to rust again.

  2. I recently had that issue and was able to get rid of it by using クリームクレンザー

  3. I haven’t tried it because I don’t have rust problems, but I saw on Japanese TV the same situation.

They put ketchup on the rust stains and then covered it with Saran Wrap. Then they waited 30 minutes with the saran wrap on then took it off and scrubbed with toothpaste.

Probably you have all of that now, might as well try it lol. Please report if it worked or that program was bullshit
