Need a new Bank account, any suggestions?

So far I’ve been using my japan post bank account (ゆうちょ銀行) that I opened when I was a student here, I’m working full time now and it’s getting a bit hard to manage everything with just one bank account so I want to open a new account in a different bank, still the only bank I know is ゆうちょ so I was hoping to get some suggestions. Is there any good bank that allows the following ?

– I don’t wanna pay a monthly fee to keep the account open nor having to keep a minimum amount saved to keep it open.

– I want to start investing in NISA, so it would be great if it allows that

– Since I will move money forth and back from my other account, I’ll rather not having a fee for transferring (not sure if this is possible)

  1. I do not think you can avoid the transfer fee if you plan to open an account in a different bank.

I opened a Rakuten Bank account but have not used it yet… but my idea was to set up the monthly payments there… but took so long that I still use the Yuucho one as my main. Rakuten is still in zero… butI should transfer the credit card as it helps to get more points.

It’s definitely possible, if you don’t mind withdrawing and deposit cash using ATM.

  3. Most banks in Japan do not charge you fee.

If you want to invest seriously with NISA, it’s better to have it in a security brokerage, not bank. Because you can open NISA only in ONE financial institution. And if you opened in a bank, you can’t invest in many products.

  4. I have Sony/Olive/Rakuten bank and these 3 have been fulfilling every use case I came across . au jibun bank as well due to circumstances, but their smartphone ATM and low transfer fee are a big plus I never knew I needed
