hello! I’m a swede thinking of moving to japan and work at a hotel as a receptionist. But i have one question and that is if the names under the bookings when you check someone in is in hiragana/katakana or if almost every name is written in kanji? I have experience working as a receptionist but i think it would almost be impossible for me if the names are written in kanji because i know for a fact i cannot read japanese names in kanji fluently. So is there any receptionist in japan that can answer me? i really want to work there and i don’t want this to be the reason i can’t 🙁 thanks beforehand!

Not a receptionist, but I can say that when it comes to the majority of online booking systems– just in general– when you input your information there is usually a box for both your name (kanji) and the reading (katakana) of your name.
So I would *assume* the hotel system on the other end also has both sets of info attached to the reservation.
You aren’t able to work in Japan without a degree (unless it’s a working holiday visa), and being able to read and write Japanese would be a pretty major requirement for working as a receptionist. The chances of getting hired are practically zero.
