I’ve been trying to figure out what you would call this in Japanese, but can’t find a good translation
Anyone know? In America a common phrase is Amazon Bin Stores. Places where you can buy surplus or returned Amazon goods for mega cheap
PS – live in Tokyo so that area would be preferred

After many years in Japan, I don’t know of any shops like the ones you described. Are you sure there are any? Because if they aren’t common enough, there might not be a Japanese expression to refer to them.

I wouldn’t expect this to be a case of Mac != Makudo. I’d expect this kind of thing to be called the same everywhere, or in no way at all.
I wonder if those sorts of goods are exported to less-developed (for lack of a better word) countries.
I’ve wondered what happens to overstock items and Amazon returns in Japan, too.
In some other places they get sold by the pallet for generally pretty cheap, and they either end up being resold on Amazon (3rd party sellers) or sold on eBay.
If you’re looking for bulk food on the cheap, I can recommend ecoeat. I bought cases of fruit jellies for like 300Â¥ each, real honey by the gallon for like 500Â¥ because it started crystallizing, etc.
It’s mostly food, but they occasionally have random household goods, and their inventory is always changing.
Personally I thought that was how secondhand shops like Second Street and Hard-Off end up with “unused goods” (stuff marked 未使用) so there weren’t really any dedicated stores for that.
Isn’t that what Amazon.jp’s Outlet/Warehouse Deals is? I’ve never bought from there personally but you can check if you’re a member.
