I interviewed for Aeon, how much did I crash and burn?

I’ve wanted to work for Aeon for years but I never got a call back for the interview until this week.
Honestly I should have reviewed the threads here about interview with Aeon. When the interviewer asked me to stand up and present I got so nervous and stopped halfway through to ask if I could start over. She was very polite but we moved forward.
I was able to get through the rest of the interview pretty good. I just verbal recounted the website to her (I did study that) and the end she mentioned that I wasn’t wearing a suit jacket. I was wearing a conservative black dress ( with does have a jacket) in my excitement I totally forgot! She ended with a reminder about the suit jacket and I currently have two toned hair (I couldn’t change that before the interview).

Fortunately I learned from my mistakes and had an successful interview with NOVA the next day and was just informed I’m moving to the next steps with them.

However how much did I screw up Aeon and 1. My chances to continue to the next round 2. If I have 0 chance, Be able to re apply?

Update: Yeah I just got the rejection letter from Aeon womp womp.

  1. You didn’t get the job at Aeon most likely because simply not following instructions is how they weed out a bunch of people.

You won’t make it to the next round I can say with confidence unless there are a shortage of hiring.

They throw your info away every 365 days. So after that period you can try again.

  2. Jesus Christ all these jobs suck, who cares. You had to start over standing? It’d be disqualifying in any other decent industry (though no normal interview will ask you to stand) but this is Eikaiwa.

If you had a dream to work for Aeon for years I pity you. Saddest thing I read today.

  3. You may want to be careful with NOVA, if you are only using it as a way to get into Japan, more power to you, but I’ve largely heard nothing but horror stories from former employees.
Do some research, and looking into what the job entails. See what is covered, and what isn’t by the job. Other EIKAIWA can be hit or miss, but I’ve been working for one for the past some odd years, and I’m somewhat pleased with where I am, though I certainly would like to move on from teaching English.
Back on point, though, it might take a little longer, but if it’s not a significant cost to you, you may want to wait and interview again. Your second time you should be a lot less nervous and will know what to expect. A higher chance for success.

  4. Aeon’s interview approach is to punish you for what you did wrong more than reward you for what you did right. They have a large enough applicant pool to get away with it. You could always reapply, but my advice is to just go with whoever will get you to Japan first.

  5. I got hired at my Eikawa because I’m apparently good looking and the mums would love me. Must suck to try hard and still get rejected.

  6. I want you to think about something.

This is a company that bases its hiring decisions more on what you’re wearing than on your resume.

Nova doesn’t care about your resume or your clothes; it bases its hiring decisions on whether you appear to have at least basic social skills.

Both companies routinely refuse to answer inquiries, are very slow in handing out information to hires whom they keep on edge, sometimes for months, regarding their start dates and placement, and routinely ghost people at the last minute, sometimes even when they already have gotten the needed permission from Japanese migration.

Why anyone would tolerate that level of contempt for employees and utter incompetence is something I can’t begin to understand.

  7. I’ve known people with actual teaching credentials and experience who got rejected by Aeon. They aren’t recruiting for competence, they recruit for confidence, because the job isn’t really teaching, it’s sales. So getting rejected by Aeon doesn’t mean you’re destined to be a bad teacher, it just means they don’t see how you’ll be bamboozling Japanese people into paying for extra study materials that won’t actually lead to any achievement.

Personally I might even take that as a compliment.

  8. Apply for ALTIA Central! They pay all 12 months of the year and they have some immediate positions they need filled right now. Honestly not that bad of a company. Just a lot of pointless trainings and meetings. lol

  9. You dodged a bullet Aeon are shit. Their interview techniques and management style are awful, they just want you to follow orders. I had an interview with them years ago and failed because I refused to stand up on command like a dog. They want people who say yes to bad working conditions and don’t complain.
