How do you make your bathroom mold free?

My ghod. The stress I have with my bathroom. If I don’t clean it after 2 days, i’ll expect to see MOLDS. I even open my ventilator after using my bathroom but molds here are really built different

  1. I made cleaning as easy as possible so I do it multiple times a month whenever I’m bored.

I hang a scrub brush on the rail (it’s got a pole so I don’t even have to bend down to scribe the bathroom). Then I have a soap dispenser with the cheapest dish soap and ~10% bleach. That way I can scrub it down and kill the mold at the same time.

Ever since I made it easy to clean, I do it more often and I haven’t even noticed any mold since

And for the drain, I just dump a bottle of drain cleaner on the first of the month.

  2. カビキラー thoroughly. I usually spray it all over the walls then leave it for 5 minutes before rinsing everything off.

With spots that are particularly stubborn, you want to cover it with a paper towel, then spray the カビキラー so it sticks to the wall. Same as before, take off after 5-10 minutes then rinse.

Clean your exhaust fan. You’ll need a bucket, lots of water, a brush and/or toothbrush, and a pair of gloves if you’re like me. There are lifehack videos online on how to do this if you search お風呂換気扇掃除. Warning though: if it’s been a while, the fan can get nasty. This could be a big factor though; dirty/clogged up exhaust fans don’t suck up air as effectively, which contributes to more moisture = more mold.

  3. In addition to mold killer, you might want to get limescale (水垢) remover. The areas I’ve removed limescale take much much longer to regrow mold compared to areas I haven’t gotten to.

  4. Keep the ventilator on, rinse down the shower with cold water after you use it, and clean it often.

  5. squeegee the walls, keep fan on hours after you finish and bleach the shit out of everything once a week

  6. The mold nuke.
And then i bought this this thing that looks like the “good smell toilet” thing. Looks like the normal ones you put on shelf to keep the poo smell away but you put it in your shower room. Keeps mold away and smells nice. Doesn’t work 100% but makes it a lot easier to maintain. Plus it smells really nice.
I would say the only mold I have now is in the corners of the shower.

  7. Kabi killer never really worked for me. A few months ago I found “Spider Gel Mold Remover” and it works SUPER well. Spray it on and leave it for the day. It seemed to kill the mold down deep.

  8. You need to squigee the water down off all of the walls following bathroom usage. Currently if there’s any mould around, you’ll just spread it so do a full spray and wash with kabi killer mentioned then use a squidgee tool going forwards.

  9. If you have a window don’t open it while all is wet.

Mold will enter from outside and loves wet surfaces.
Only open the window for a while and when all is dry.

I used to leave for long periods of time my window open believing it was the right think to do but not.

Now I just get a bit of mold from time to time that is easily cleaned.

  10. Ventilator to make sure everything is dried and using 防カビくん once in two months as preventative measures

  11. If you own, ceramic coating. We did it 3 years ago, no mold in the bathroom or toilet room. Combined with ventilation, we just need to scrub the bathroom down once a week.

  12. 1. My bathroom fan has been nonstop running for over 30 years (5 in current place)
    2. I have a small window in the bathroom with a screen and it’s also open 24/7
    3. I use a ¥100 squeegee to remove most water from the walls after showers
    4. I clean the drain 1/week and throw in a tablet
    5. I use the silver smoke bomb thing 1x every 3months

    6. Never pee in the shower!

  13. After your shower / bath, spray all the surfaces with cold water.

Keep the fan on for at least a couple of hours minimum.

Keeping windows open is an option, but more often than not, it’s humid outside.

Don’t close off your bathroom. Keep doors open when not in use.

    Also consider a dehumidifier.

  14. Mold spray from the 100 yen shop, ventilator, keep the window open whenever we’re not using it.
