  1. I’m watching one piece, and I know anime isn’t always the best way to learn Japanese, but Luffy shouts “止めろう、お前ら” at some enemies about to attack his ship, and it’s a thing I’ve noticed a couple of times- Why is he saying 止めろう rather than 止めて ? Can ーろう be used like a command in general? What is the nuance there?

  2. So I was rewatching bleach and the character Gin Ichimaru’s sword name has been bugging me. The base sword is written as 神鎗 God Spear (Pronounced:Shinsō), and it’s true name is called 神殺鎗 God-Killing Spear(Pronounced Kamishini No Yari) Spear uses the same character. (plugging killing into gtranslate had a different entire pronounciation but that’s a different matter I’m chocking up to Gtranslates limitations.)

Did some digging and all I could find was that sō is the first word of sōjutsu (Spear Art) while the more commmon use of spear that i can find is Yari. So how does one know to read 神鎗 as Shinso and not Shin yari?
