2. njpw1972 published an A block preview which details each competitor’s background, record, momentum, and key matches leading into the tournament, but it includes a bunch of great storyline threads that throws some doubt on the upcoming matches:

   – Okada wanted to be the reigning champion while winning NJC and G1 this year, and so his perfect run has been ruined by Naito and Jay so far, which could mean he triumphs for the G1 or gets spoiled again by Naito or one of his other rivals (SANADA, Ospreay, Shingo?)

   – Lawlor has been given a parallel with Okada as both being dominant champions that lost their titles before the tournament. This could signal an upset and potential big push for Lawlor to be coming to Japan more often, which has interesting possibilities as a faction leader on Strong

   – Speaking of Strong factions, Lawlor/Jonah is a first-time match that could set up future Strong storylines with two faction heads facing off. It’s still unknown how significant the factions on Strong will be to the domestic NJPW product, or how featured both Lawlor and Jonah will be in Japan going forward, so the result affecting the future of Strong would make things very interesting
