源泉徴収票 from previous employer

Currently doing year end tax adjustment with my current company and one of the section asked me to input details for my previous job. My previous job was in Feb to March 2023 and I started my current job in April 2023.

My current job asked for 源泉徴収票 and I realised I don’t have it. My previous company didn’t give or send me anything after I left. Do I ask them for it? I’m just worried because we didn’t end things amicably and they might not want to give it to me or anything.

Any advice on how else I can get this document? Thank you.

  1. Yes, you must ask your previous employer. Any company is obliged to issue it in Japan. If they refuse, you can call tax department to order the company to issue.

  2. Your previous employer is obligated by law to provide this document for you upon request and “within a reasonable amount of time.”

Call or email them, let them know who are you, and request the document.
