Just got my placement in Iwade city, east Wakayama prefecture. I’ll be coming from Chicago, US so I’d appreciate any info/advice I can get about the area, it’s climate or the BOE I’ll be working for.
I don’t know much about this part of Japan, basic research tells me it’s heavily known for its mountain onsens and religious sites. I also can’t tell by looking at the map but does this count as part of the inaka?
Anyone in the same prefecture or neighboring ones hit me up in DMs, would love to make some new friends!

Not a JET anymore but currently in Wakayama city. Yep, you’ve got mountains and rice fields to the horizon and plenty of onsen and temples. Nice area, I’d certainly choose to live there, although a younger person in need of city lights might find it a tad dull.
